TOM BATEMAN AS BESOTTED CAPTAIN CRAWLEY

‘VANITY FAIR’ SERIES 2018

I’ve already announced that those last two are preparing a mini series based on Thackeray’s classic novel VANITY FAIR and that Olivia Cooke will take the lead role of Becky Sharp, a girl from the 19th century who attempts to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English Society, and now Da Vinci’s Demon’s star Tom Bateman has been cast as Rawdon Crawley in the series that will also air on Amazon. He and his  brother are at risk of losing their family and fortune through their passion and desire to be with Becky Sharp! The seven part series is set in the background of Napoleonic wars in Europe. Bateman already work with ITV on Jekyll and Hyde series which flopped massively. He also appears in Kenneth Branagh‘s Murder on the Orient Express.

‘ALIAS GRACE’  SARAH GADON MINI SERIES
The series will first air in Canada in September and after that on Netflix

for the mini series that will launch September 25th at CBC in Canada and then on Netflix November 3rd.

A 19TH CENTURY MYSTERY
The six part mini series follows Grace Marks (Sarah Gadon) a poor, young Irish immigrant and domestic servant in Upper Canada who, along with stable hand James McDermott (Kerr Logan), was convicted of the brutal murders of their employer and his housekeeper in 1843. James was hanged while Grace was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1843. Grace claimed to have had no memory of the murder yet the facts were irrefutable. A decade after, Dr. Simon Jordan tried to help Grace recall her past. Grace was one of the most enigmatic and notorious women of her time for her supposed role in the sensational double murder, but was eventually exonerated after 30 years in jail. Her conviction was controversial and sparked much debate about whether Grace was actually involved in the murder or merely an unwitting accessory. Zachary Levi is also in the cast alongside Reign‘s Michael Therriault and Edward Holcroft as the doctor! Atwood has a cameo in the series!

‘IN THE GARDEN OF THE KING’ 2018

FILM ON KING LEOPOLD II’s BRUTAL GENOCIDE IN KONGO

A dark topic, but one that was long over due to be covered on the big screen, although it was somewhat mentioned in last year’s Tarzan. As ‘Deadline’ reports, Jonah Renck is set to helm IN THE GARDEN OF THE KING movie about the genocide of the Congolese people by King Leopold II of Belgium between 1885 -1908. The story is told through the eyes of three protagonists, each living in different parts of the world in different eras: a present day Belgian aid worker; a Victorian shipping merchant and a colonial Congo girl warrior. Their fates are intertwined by their unexpected involvement in history’s greatest forgotten atrocity — the Belgian genocide in the Congo.

HISTORY LESSON
The atrocities of Belgian king Leopold II have been largely hidden in Western world even though he was one of the greatest villains the world has ever seen who launched a shockingly brutal genocide of millions of black people after he conquered the Congo as his own colony in the 1880s! He also left millions of people maimed with their hands cut off if they failed to reach the daily rubber picking quota. Countless holes were dug out later on with dozens of thousands of severed limbs. His soldiers used to burn down whole villages, cutting of the heads and genitals of men and hanging women and children on the village palisades. The number of dead people in the exploited Congo was over ten million! That number bought Leopold’s personal fortune which was estimated to be close to $500 million, a number that made him the richest man in the world of that time.
