Mapp and Lucie

I so enjoyed the older version. What great actresses wiii be giving this reboot an excellent start.

The Hour’s Anna Chancellor and Academy Award nominated actress Miranda Richardson have been cast as the leads in BBC One’s upcoming six episode Mapp and Lucia adaptation.

Mapp and Lucia is set in the small English town of Tilling during the Summer of 1930. The three-parter is described as “celebrating the snobberies and pretensions of small town life”, the drama follows Mrs Emmeline Lucas, known to her friends as Lucia, who decides to take a holiday in the charming Queen Anne town of Tilling.

Chancellor has been cast as Emmeline ‘Lucia’ Lucas, while Richardson will play Elizabeth Mapp. The three-parter also stars Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) as Major Benjy, a veteran of the British Indian Army; and Steve Pemberton (The League Of Gentlemen) as Georgie Pillson, Lucia’s devoted acolyte and dapper chief courtier.

Rounding out the cast is Felicity Montagu (Alan Partridge), Gemma Whelan (Game Of Thrones), Paul Ritter (Quantum Of Solace), Katy Brand (Mongrels), Poppy Miller (The Commander), Nick Woodeson (The Honourable Woman), Pippa Haywood (The Brittas Empire) and Frances Barber (Silk).

Mapp and Lucia is based on the EF Benson novels and was adapted by Steve Pemberton. The project, which was commissioned by BBC One Controller Charlotte Moore and the BBC’s Controller of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson, is being produced in-house by BBC Drama Production, with Hilary Salmon and Lisa Osborne serving as the executive producers. Susie Liggat is set to produce while Quirke helmer Diarmuid Lawrence is attached to direct.

“It’s a tribute to EF Benson’s irrepressible characters that we have been able to attract Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor to play his two most iconic and well-loved creations”, said Hilary Salmon, the BBC’s Senior Executive Producer.
