 FEMALE VIKING ADVENTURE
Here’s something epic for you while we’re nearing the end of the week: as ‘Deadline’ reports today, Constantin Film and Prime Universe will turn Natasha Alterici‘s female Viking comic book HEATHEN into a movie. The second volume of the graphic novel should be out in July. It tells the story of a young Viking warrior named Aydis. An outcast and self proclaimed HEATHEN Aydis is a woman born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women. She takes on a quest to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin, and break the shackles imposed on the women around her. Oh, and she’s lesbian.

Mermaid and Mrs Hancock

TO BE TURNED INTO TV SERIES BY WHITE QUEEN PRODUCERS

Another epic series we can expect is the adaptation of Imogen Hermes Gowar‘s THE MERMAID AND MRS HANCOCK.

Playground Entertainment (Wolf Hall, White Queen) has bought the rights on the 1785 London set novel which follows Jonah Hancock, a prosperous merchant and widower, whose Captain returns having sold Hancock’s ship and cargo in exchange for an extraordinary creature; a mermaid. This mermaid becomes the subject of great curiosity and forges an encounter between Hancock and the desirable courtesan, Angelica Neal. The story describes their intertwined lives. This historical fantasy was sold earlier this year in a race between ten publishing houses for a six number sum.

The Caesars’ – Epic Series

FROM TUDORS’ MICHAEL HIRST AND MARTIN SCORSESE?
Info coming from ‘The Guardian’ that Tudors, Elizabeth and Vikings creator Michael Hirst is preparing THE CAESARS series with Martin Scorsese which will cover the lives of some of Rome’s most famous rulers. The series, expected to start shooting its first season next year in Italy, will tell the story of the early rulers of ancient Rome, beginning with the rise to power of Julius Caesar! Unlike other projects which used to depict him in his mature age, this series would depict him when he was young, ambitious and full of vitality. As you probably remember, Julius Caesar was indeed already shown as a very ambitious young soldier, filled with both political and sexual energy, in super popular Spartacus series.

“The King” – King Henry for Netflix

While we are waiting to see Chris Pine as a Scottish hero Robert the Bruce in Outlaw King later this year, it seems Netflix is preparing another royal project. THE KING will star Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet as king Henry V! Tom Hiddleston, Jude Law, Kenneth Branagh and Laurence Olivier were just some of the actors who portrayed the king famous for the battle at Agincourt.

THE KING, directed by David Michod, will see Chalamet playing the king  who, after his brother is killed in battle before his coronation, takes over the crown in the early 1400s. The reluctant ruler wears the crown at a time when England was near a war with France, and the empire is teetering. He rises to the occasion, admirably.
